Mystery Skype

I think the mystery Skype went very well considering we didn't know what to expect. It felt very real to hear their perspective from their mouths. It had more power coming from them than it would from a documentary or an article. We can relate and connect to them as grade 11 students. I think it will improve as we continue communication. I think the more we talk the more we will share. It will also give me a real perspective on the Rez Sisters. In conclusion I think the experience provided a very real perspective for me and the class.

I am reading Through Black Spruce by Joseph Boyden. He is a Canadian novelist who has wrote books like Three Day Road. Through Black Spruce is a story about a native family in Moosefactory struggling with alcoholism, biker gangs, native prejudices and modern assimilation. Joseph Boyden is also native making him connected to the text. He makes references to the residential schools which was a major event plaguing native people. He also makes references to modernization of native music. His knowledge of new and old native culture adds to the novel.
